SilviPak is high quality food packaging made from virgin fibre. It is flexible and sturdy and the fibre used has an insulating effect. It is highly suitable for such items as frozen and chilled ready-cooked food.

SilviPak packaging items are manufactured and developed in consultation with customers according to the unique needs and requirements of specific foods. Unlike plastic and paperboard, there is no limit to the possible designs, colours and print on the packaging. SilviPak is approved for use with food.

Unique properties

SilviPak’s development was based on Rottneros’ more than one hundred years of experience and knowledge of the raw material, i.e. forest and paper pulp. A careful and thorough development process, which included a series of laboratory and product tests, resulted in a product with unique properties:

  • High quality – produced from paper pulp of very high quality, so-called virgin fibre.
  • Environmentally friendly – the items can be re-used and the barrier film can be easily removed.
  • Sturdy – no paperboard sleeve or box is required.
  • Flexible – limitless possibilities with respect to size, shape and colour.
  • Heat resistant – after lamination with a barrier film, SilviPak can withstand high temperatures for a long period in both microwave and conventional ovens.
  • Insulating – retains heat but the fibre does not become hot on the external surface and can therefore be handled directly after heating.
  • Cost effective – the paper pulp is moulded and laminated in one step to form trays, thereby eliminating a step in the manufacturing process.

Raw material – virgin fibre

SilviPak is produced from high quality paper pulp, from pure virgin fibre. The high quality of the raw material makes it possible to produce dust-free trays with a very good finish.

The paper pulp is produced by the Rottneros Group and the SilviPak items are produced at Rottneros Mill.

Barrier film

The trays are laminated with different types of protective barrier film depending on the application. The barrier film has only a minimal impact on the environment and can be easily removed.

Printing and decoration

Text and decoration such as logos, marketing messages etc. can be printed on the barrier film. Both the film and the trays can be produced in a variety of colours.

Examples of applications
